Station of the Cross # 2

Judas Betrays Jesus

Read Matthew 26:14-16

14 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests 15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

Judas was one of Jesus' closest friends, one of the twelve disciples who had been with him for three years.  He agreed to betray Jesus for just thirty silver coins.

Hold one or two coins in your hand.  How could Judas betray Jesus, his friend, for money?  How do you think Judas felt when he looked at the coins in his hand and realized what he had traded for them?

Is your own heart tempted to betray Jesus over material things?  Take the time to talk with him about it.
